Ludlow Museum at the Buttercross will introduce free entry on Sundays from 1 November 2026. The six-month trial will run throughout winter and into spring, following a decision by Ludlow Town Council's Services Committee.

The initiative builds on positive momentum from this summer's extended opening during Ludlow's History Festival, when Ludlow Civic Society and Ludlow Town Guides provided free entry. That period saw a significant increase in visitor numbers and positive feedback from residents and tourists.

Why the trial is starting now

Ludlow Town Council designed the Free Entry Sundays scheme to encourage repeat visits and support the Museum during quieter seasonal periods. The move reflects the Council's commitment to keeping Ludlow's heritage accessible to all residents and visitors.

Museum milestones and recognition

The Museum is marking its 10th anniversary in 2026 with free-entry days, a special evening reception, and a strong summer programme. Since opening, it has welcomed over 50,000 visitors, ranging from school groups discovering Ludlow's past to residents reconnecting with local stories.

The Museum holds Arts Council Accreditation, a nationally recognised mark of professional management and a sustainable, trusted institution. The Buttercross building itself received a heritage award in 2017, recognising Ludlow Town Council's work to preserve and enhance the Conservation Area.
