Ludlow Town Council has backed a planning application to refurbish the former Chang Thai building on Market Street, bringing the vacant property back into residential use.
The Council welcomes the redevelopment and has submitted recommendations to improve the scheme. The applicant's current proposal includes ten flats, but the Council believes reducing this to eight would create more spacious and liveable homes.
Council recommendations
In its response to the planning application, the Council has highlighted several amendments it believes would benefit the development and surrounding area.
These include retaining and enhancing the existing garden space with additional greenery to encourage wildlife and provide a positive outlook for neighbouring properties. The Council also recommends increasing the bin storage area and adjusting the layout to reduce the impact on the adjacent flat.
Housing and community focus
The Council has emphasised the importance of ensuring the homes are used as permanent residences rather than holiday lets. This requirement would help address the local shortage of housing and support a stable community.
The Council views the refurbished building as an opportunity to maintain and improve this prominent Market Street property while contributing positively to Ludlow's historic town centre.
